Alexandrea Tan grew up in a family of entrepreneurs—her parents and older sister built successful businesses, and she admired their passion and dedication. Yet, unlike them, she wasn’t a natural risk-taker.

“Starting Luminor wasn’t just a business decision; it was a battle against my own fears. After a year of meticulous planning, my website was set, the products were ready, and the photoshoots were done. Yet, when it was finally time to launch, I froze. Doubt crept in. What if I fail? What if no one buys?” she recalls.

It wasn’t until her sister asked her one simple question—“If not now, then when?”—that she finally took the step forward.

Unlike many young entrepreneurs who rely on family funding, Alex built Luminor from the ground up, without financial help from her parents. Every peso she invested came from her own hard work.

Even in high school, she found creative ways to earn—renting out gowns from her JS Prom and debut and later working as her older sister’s assistant, repacking products and earning small commissions.

“I started with almost nothing—just a dream, a vision, and the determination to make it happen. I wanted to prove to myself that I could build something on my own, no matter how small the starting point,” she shares.

While building Luminor, she also balanced the demands of her college program at DLSU Manila. Studying a math-heavy course, managing internships, and completing her thesis—all while running a growing business—was no easy feat.

“There were moments of exhaustion, moments where I questioned if I could handle both paths. But giving up was never an option,” she says.

“Looking back, I realize that success isn’t about waiting for the perfect timing or having the biggest resources. It’s about having the courage to start, the persistence to keep going, and the faith that even the smallest beginnings can grow into something extraordinary.”

When she graduated Cum Laude, she knew she had fought for both her education and her dream—without shortcuts, without privilege, and with pure determination.

From Passion Project to Cult Favorite

Luminor started as a passion project during Alexandrea’s college years, driven by her love for perfumes and her desire to make them more accessible.

“I would always admire my older sister’s collection of high-end perfumes. But as much as I adored them, they always felt unattainable,” she recalls.

Determined to change that, she built a brand that delivers luxury-level quality at a fraction of the cost.

Now, Luminor has become a viral sensation, with influencers and celebrities raving about its elegant, long-lasting scents.

“Since there are so many perfume options available, it was difficult to make people notice Luminor and convince them to try our scents,” Alexandrea admits.

But through authentic storytelling, influencer collaborations, and community engagement, the brand quickly gained a loyal following. TikTok and Instagram played a huge role in Luminor’s rise, with customers sharing real experiences and proving that great fragrances don’t have to break the bank.
