Canon has officially introduced three new additions to its imaging lineup—the EOS R50 V, PowerShot V1, and the RF-S14-30mm f/4-6.3 IS STM PZ lens—each specifically designed to meet the evolving needs of a new generation of content creators focused on video production.
“The PowerShot V Series and EOS V Series cameras are for Filipino creators with a growing enthusiasm for capturing life’s moments and creating enjoyable video content. These cutting-edge tools are designed with portability, ease of use, and high-quality output in mind. Whether it’s vlogging, livestreaming, or crafting short films, these cameras empower creators to elevate their storytelling with the versatility and reliability Canon is known for,”
said Jian Liu, Director for Consumer Information and Imaging, Canon Marketing Philippines.
EOS R50 V: Versatility and Cinema-Level Performance
At the forefront is the EOS R50 V, an interchangeable lens camera that features a 24.2-megapixel APS-C sensor, akin to the Super 35mm sensors used in Canon’s cinema-grade EOS C70. It is tailored for creators looking for enhanced operability, cinematic video features, and the flexibility of interchangeable lenses.
Designed for video-first workflows, it features a reimagined control layout with a movie-dedicated mode dial, a zoom lever, and dedicated buttons for livestreaming and color modes. Optimized for vertical shooting with thoughtful additions such as an auto-rotating display, side tripod socket, and vertical grip ergonomics.
Cinema-inspired capabilities include 10-bit Canon Log 3, HDR PQ and HLG modes, and support for formats like XF-HEVC S / XF-AVC S. The R50 V also boasts false color displays, smooth slow motion at up to Full HD 120p, and a new Cinema View feature that replicates cinematic angles and frame rates.
On the audio front, Canon includes 3-mic noise reduction and support for LPCM 24-bit 4-channel input—ideal for complex audio projects like interviews and concert recordings. Creators can livestream at 4K 60p via USB-C, with compatibility for Canon’s Live Switcher app enabling multi-camera streams.
The EOS R50 V further enhances subject capture with Register People Priority mode, allowing tracking of pre-registered individuals—a feature usually found in higher-tier EOS models.
PowerShot V1: High-Performance Video in a Compact Form
Canon’s first all-in-one video-centric compact camera, the PowerShot V1, packs a punch with a 22.3-megapixel 1.4-inch type sensor—approximately double the surface area of traditional 1-inch sensors. Combined with a fast f/2.8 to f/4.5 lens and 16-50mm (equivalent) zoom, it’s an ideal companion for vlogging, livestreaming, and even documentary-style filmmaking.
Compact and highly portable, the PowerShot V1 benefits from a viewfinder-less design, internal cooling fan for extended video sessions, and a layout optimized for easy, one-handed shooting. Key enhancements include Dual Pixel CMOS AF II, a built-in 3-stop ND filter for bright conditions, and Subject Tracking IS, which locks subjects in-frame during stabilization.
The camera supports uncropped 4K 30p, cropped 4K 60p, and slow motion up to Full HD 120p. It also offers advanced features like Smooth Skin mode, 14 color filters, and professional-grade color grading through Canon Log 3.
Connectivity options include USB-C webcam functionality, as well as Bluetooth and app-based remote control via the Canon Camera Connect app.
RF-S14-30mm f/4-6.3 IS STM PZ: Canon’s First Power Zoom Lens
Completing the lineup is the RF-S14-30mm f/4-6.3 IS STM PZ, Canon’s first RF mount lens to incorporate a built-in power zoom. Compact at just 6cm in length and weighing 181g, this lens is purpose-built for video, offering consistent balance on gimbals and other stabilization systems.
The lens features 15 customizable zoom speed values, controlled either via the zoom ring or a zoom lever on compatible cameras like the EOS R50 V. It supports remote zoom operation via smartphone and delivers up to 5 stops of stabilization for stills and 5-axis Movie Digital IS for video. Paired with Coordinated Control IS, it provides an even more stable shooting experience.
With a 22.4mm wide angle at its short end and up to 48mm (equivalent) at the long end, it’s well-suited for both wide establishing shots and more intimate close-ups. A 0.15m minimum focusing distance and 0.38x magnification at the telephoto end further extend its creative utility.
A New Generation of Creator Tools
With the EOS R50 V, PowerShot V1, and the RF-S14-30mm PZ lens, Canon is making a bold statement in its commitment to the creator community. From casual vloggers to aspiring filmmakers, these new tools offer the flexibility, performance, and creative freedom needed to thrive in today’s dynamic content landscape.
