Sorsogon is well-known for its abundant natural resources, cuisines, and, yes, the coastal areas. No wonder gentle giants chose to swim in the waters of one of its municipalities, Donsol. But beyond the whale shark gaining national buzz, more incredible destinations in this province deserve attention.
This summer, it’s time to leave your room, bring that Pinterest moodboard to life, and get the vitamin sea you need in Sorsogon. I listed five must-visit beaches and resorts that you won’t want to miss.
LOLA SAYONG ECO-SURF CAMP

First on the list is located in Sorsogon’s second district. Lola Sayong is nestled in the town of Buenavista, Gubat. It functions not just as a tourist spot but also as a camp that has an ‘advocacy.’ Why, you ask? Lola Sayong follows strict rules in maintaining its advocacy to protect the biodiversity surrounding the camp.

The coastline near the camp provides a serene backdrop perfect for photoshoots and Instagram postings. And, of course, the consistent swell of the open sea rolls makes it ideal for an exhilarating activity that draws many: surfing.

This eco surf and farm camp is fit for those whose heart is in a spontaneous summer vacation. They offer another activity, not just to float or swim; you can have a surf lesson for P400/hour. This is why the camp is popular among the resorts all over Sorsogon. A camp indeed!
If you just landed at the Bicol International Airport or you arrived at the Legazpi Terminal, you will ride a bus to Bulan, Sorsogon. Wait until you reach the Abuyog Crossing and ride a jeepney to Gubat, Sorsogon. From Gubat, you may ride a trike to Lola Sayong Eco-Surf Camp.
SUBIC BEACH MATNOG

Subic Beach Matnog is often referred to as the “Pink Sand” beach in the Philippines, and it kept its reputation alive.

The moment you step on the island, you’ll leave a footprint on its creamy white and delicate pink sand. It is more evident when it shimmers under the harsh sunlight.
The trip may include island-hopping and a trip to a lagoon where you can enjoy feeding the marine animals in their fish sanctuary.
Approaching the island, you will be welcomed by the crystal-clear waters. This is where you might question your existence if you’ve gone for a summer getaway or already entered the gates of heaven.
From the Legazpi City terminal, you will have to ride a van to Sorsogon City. Upon arriving at the SITEX (the terminal of Sorsogon’s minibus), look for a minibus that heads to Matnog, Sorsogon. Upon arriving at Matnog’s tourism office, you will have to ride a boat to Subic Beach Matnog. If you fancy a peaceful stay, you may choose Subic Saday, and if you prefer an island that has food canteens, you may opt for Subic Dako.
PAGURIRAN ISLAND

Paguriran Island can be found in the province’s first district, Bacon, Sorsogon City.
I vividly remember how I enjoyed my childhood when our family visited Paguriran Island. This is where I had my core memory of seeing a starfish for the first time!
The small island is famous for its stunning natural lagoon enclosed by a ring of limestone rocks, which is perfect for a relaxing dip. You can also enjoy the different rock formations on this island.
The water on this island transforms into a crystal-clear expanse, so transparent that you can see underneath the sandy ripple on the shallow bottom.
I can hear the unending camera shutter clicks when you get there. Be careful of the leeches clinging, though!
From Sorsogon City, you may ride a trike heading to Sawangga, Bacon where Paguriran Island is.
SIAMA SURF

If you’re easily overwhelmed by anything dynamic, you may enjoy your slow days at Siama Surf. This resort boasts a grandiose facade that you will never forget.

Outside, the sparkling turquoise waters of the swimming pool are a refreshing jewel set amidst the vibrant greens of the meticulously landscaped gardens. For siesta, you will find serene in their well-appointed rooms designed with comfort and style.
While you can’t actually surf on the beach, it offers a calming ambiance and is a convenient base to heal your creative block or simply become one with nature.
Siama Surf is a few metres away from Lola Sayong Eco SurFarm.
BEATA BEACH AND SANCTUARY RESORT

“Quieter,” you say? If you want a more secluded and serene beach experience, head to Beata Beach and Sanctuary in San Sebastian, Santa Magdalena.

This quiet beach has powdery white sand and clear, pristine waters, ideal for swimming and sunbathing. The powdery sand is so fine that it feels like you’re standing on silk. They also offer crystal kayaking, which is popular nowadays on social media.

Upon arriving, you will be greeted by the picturesque huts, hammocks, and modern cabanas with a mini pool.
From SITEX, find an e-jeep going to Sta. Magdalena and instruct the conductor that you’re getting off at the crossing going to Bigo. From Bigo, you may ride a tricycle to the resort.
